"This is a bittersweet move for me,” said Davis. “I really love the Sterling Heights Regional Chamber of Commerce and the work it does every day to help businesses in our region grow and prosper, driving expansion of our community’s overall economic stability. You won’t find a board, membership or staff that is more engaged and committed to the organization’s success and the success of our community at large.
That being said, as a nearly lifelong resident of Sterling Heights, I’m thrilled to be able to capitalize on the momentum already established by city administration to continue promoting the countless city initiatives and amenities that make Sterling Heights one of the best places to live, work and play. I truly look forward to the opportunity to engage and dialogue with members of our community, working together to keep Sterling Heights the safe, vibrant and inclusive community I love."
“Melanie’s experience will be advantageous to the Community Relations Department and our entire organization. I am excited she is joining our exceptional leadership team,” said Sterling Heights City Manager Mark Vanderpool. Ms. Davis resides with her husband and children in Sterling Heights and has been an advocate for the transformative changes being effectuated throughout Sterling Heights through the city’s Visioning 2030 Strategic Plan, Recreating Recreation, and Safe Streets.
“The Chamber has been serving Macomb County businesses for more than 58 years, and just three individuals have been in the top leadership position for 43 of those years,” said Chamber Chair Angie Lommen of BAE Systems. “Stable, respected and progressive leadership in serving our businesses, professionals and the families who live in our communities have been our hallmarks throughout our history.”
With the approaching departure of our current president to a position with the City of Sterling Heights, the Chamber is seeking a proven and experienced leader who will bring energy, enthusiasm and the necessary skillset to take one of Michigan’s largest and most respected Chambers to the all-important “next level.”
The president is accountable to the Board of Directors, and works to foster board relationships and development, and is also responsible for creating and executing strategic planning, marketing, the annual budget, and business plans in relationship to the region the Chamber serves. Membership growth and retention, sponsorship development, and event planning are all key areas of responsibility. The president will also develop and maintain strong relationships with leaders in the private and public sectors, and will be both the public face and official spokesperson for the Chamber.
Candidates for the position should minimally hold a Bachelor’s Degree in business or public administration or related field, with at least five years of progressively responsible experience in business, political, community, or not-for-profit areas. Prior experience in managing a Chamber of Commerce, or other membership-based organization, and expertise with a 501(c)(3) foundation is also highly desirable.
Salary and benefits package offered with the position are very competitive (DOQ), with a progressive fringe benefits package. Candidates will submit a letter of interest, resume, salary history, and a list of three references to:
