2015 was a great year for our Chamber and our Members. We hosted the first ever Chamber Cares event where police officers and firefighters from Sterling Heights and Warren came together to raise money for the Children’s Miracle Network; our Young Professionals Network “#YoPros” was founded and hosted many successful events; we held our first Golf Outing which was both a success and a blast!; and we held our first Ladies Evening Out event where ladies shopped till they dropped, enjoyed a fashion show, got a psychic reading, won some prizes and raised funds for Blessings in a Backpack – Utica.
While we are sad to see 2015 go, we are excited to see some new changes coming our way in 2016.
Board of Directors
Our Executive Board for 2016 had a few changes: Terri Giampetroni (Legal Strategies) passed the gavel to Chairman Mike Kramer (Moceri & Co., P.C.); our new Vice Chair is Ron Chriss (DTE Energy); and Nate Tallman (Metro Wire & Cable Corp.) accepted the Chair Elect position. In addition, Dr. Christine Johns (Utica Community Schools) was elected to serve as a Director.
The Ambassadors also elected a new Chair and Vice Chair to lead them into 2016. John Winter (Dawn to Dusk Cleaning Services LLC) has been elected Chairman of the Ambassadors, and Mike Weatherly (Complete Interactive Technologies, Inc.) has taken on the duties of Vice Chair.
New Business Awards at Annual Membership Meeting
This year at our Annual Meeting, we will implement some new Business Awards for our members. We are opening nominations for three categories: Best Place to Work, BRAG Member of the Year Award, and New Member of the Year Award. Nominations will be accepted until Friday, January 29. Voting will then take place and the electronic balloting will close on Friday, February 12. Winners will be announced at our Annual Meeting on Thursday, February 18. To nominate a Chamber Member, click here to fill out the form.
Chamber President is Retiring
Current President Wayne Oehmke announced his retirement mid-2015, effective May 2016. That means our Chamber will be getting a new leader mid-year. Wayneo’s wit and charm will be missed at future events but we are glad he will be with us through (almost) half of 2016!
After 5 on a Boat
I am personally so excited for this event! Not only because it just happens to fall on my birthday, but also because we are trying to utilize the natural resources in our backyard! This After 5 event will include a 3 ½ hour cruise down Clinton River, a dinner buffet, a DJ with a dance floor, 80 – 150 members ready to network, and a cash bar. So mark your calendars for June 23rd and stay tuned for more details!
Fall Grub Crawl on Van Dyke
This year, the Grub Crawl in the Spring will still be on Hall Road – but with more participating restaurants and a wider range. The Fall Grub Crawl will be with our members’ restaurants on Van Dyke! Last fall we had nearly 350 crawlers. So our 2016 Grub Crawls are going to be bigger and better than ever! Get ready to sample new restaurants this year, crawlers and mark your calendars for Wednesday, April 27 (Spring Grub Crawl) and Wednesday, September 21 (Fall Grub Crawl).
Obviously we don’t know everything that’s going to happen in 2016, but this is what we know! We hope you enjoyed a glimpse into 2016 and we hope to see you at an upcoming Chamber event!
