I’m so excited to be writing on this topic. One of our BRAG groups, the Tuesday Warren Community Center group, has now started experimenting with ooVoo, an online video conference call. On ooVoo, you can ‘Skype’ with up to 10 people on the same call. So if you’ve fallen ill, the weather’s bad or you’re on a business trip, you can still make it to your BRAG group meeting all thanks to technology! Even though you cannot physically be present at a meeting shouldn’t be a prohibiting factor of you being there. Technology is here to help us and make our lives easier.
Bill Griffith, our BRAG Administrator, was able to connect me with Mike Regoni from the Tuesday group. Mike was more than willing to share his group’s experience with ooVoo and I just had to share it with all of you!
Mike’s group has 12 members total and so far they’ve experimented with conferencing in one other person who couldn’t make it to their meeting. Overall, they’ve had success and definitely plan on continuing to use ooVoo with discretion. It’s a tool that they don’t want to abuse because the goal is to be in the meeting in person. But sometimes life happens and ooVoo-ing, if you will, into the meeting is a great way to keep up with their BRAG group.
Like all great plans, there’s definitely a downside. The group doesn’t get a steady Wi-Fi connection in the room they meet in. So there was some troubleshooting. But, like Mike mentioned, they’re going to be looking into switching rooms to make sure that they hopefully solve their problem. Other than that, Mike said that the meeting ran relatively smooth! It was a little different to get used to a first, but the flow of the meeting ran just fine.
The best part of ooVoo-ing into the meeting for Mike’s group was that no one felt left out. All reporting was done in a timely fashion and the meeting went on like nothing was different! He would recommend other BRAG groups to take advantage of the technology we have at hand. But, ooVoo-ing into meetings shouldn’t come to be a habit. Meeting physically for the meetings is very important.
If you and your group is intrigued and have any questions, don’t hesitate to email Bill!
