While 2011 may seem like it’s a long time from these sunny days of summer, it’s not as far as we’d like to think, especially when it comes to our annual Chamber elections.
In January 2008 we established Election Guidelines that state we are to publish notification of the upcoming elections during July and August, and invite qualified and eligible Chamber members to run for a seat on our Board of Directors.
Our By-laws state: “Members of the Board of Directors must be representatives of a member business in good standing for a minimum of two years.” Additionally, “A member of the Board of the Chamber of Commerce may not serve on a board or any committee of another Macomb County-based chamber of commerce. A person who is elected to the Board of Directors of the Chamber of Commerce who is serving on a board or committee of another Macomb County-based chamber of Commerce must resign his/her position on the board or
committee of the other Macomb County-based chamber of commerce prior to taking his/her oath of office as a Board member of the Chamber of Commerce.”
The Board Executive Committee will meet prior to the regular September Board of Directors meeting to verify applicant’s qualifications. The board meets on September 28 to approve the ballot and qualified applicants. Ballots will be mailed by October 26, and to be counted, must be received at the Chamber offices by November 15. The ballot results will be reported to the Board at their November meeting, and the newly-elected and re-elected Board members will be installed at the December meeting.
Our 23 member Board of Directors is responsible for the government and policy making responsibilities of the Chamber, and also controls its property, is responsible for the finances and directs the affairs of the Chamber. Current Directors whose terms expire in 2010 are Dan Felstow, Jim Gianakopoulos, Lester Gilbert, Carl Gervason, Tony Licata, Craig Stormer and Paul Reiz. All are eligible for re-election, and we would welcome additional Applications for a Board position as well.
If you’re interested in serving on the Chamber Board, please contact President Wayne Oehmke at 586-731-5400, ext. 22, or email woehmke@shrcci.com, and he’ll get you the necessary Application and associated documents.
