Chamber History
"A Chamber on the Move"
In the past 48 years, the Sterling Heights Regional Chamber & Industry has grown
from a small, localized Chamber that began life in 1961, to Macomb County’s leading
Chamber with almost 1,500 members.
Our original "designated" service area of "Greater Utica," has expanded to serve
businesses in virtually every Macomb County community, with additional membership
in Wayne and Oakland Counties. Fully forty percent of our members are located outside
of our original "designated" areas of Sterling Heights, Utica and Shelby Township.
In our 48-year-history, we’ve had no fewer than five different names:
| 1961: |
Greater Utica Chamber of Commerce
"By unity of action to promote commercial, industrial, civic and agricultural
development of the City of Utica, and Townships of Shelby and Sterling Heights."
|
| 1967: |
Shelby-Utica-Sterling Chamber of Commerce |
| 1972: |
Utica Area Chamber of Commerce |
| 1977: |
Northwest Macomb Chamber of Commerce |
| 1986: |
Sterling Heights Area Chamber of Commerce |
In 2009 we further enhanced our name by adding "Regional" and "Industry" to recognize
our regional status and our developing industrial membership base. We value our
relationships with our Heritage communities, while at the same time being more reflective
of our growing membership throughout Macomb County.
Our Mission has been, and continues to be very simply: To bring features, benefits
and value to our members, and each and every day we strive to bring a Return on
Investment (ROI) to our members, and to make their Chamber the best in all of Macomb.
Our 23 Directors, Ambassadors, BRAG™ leaders, volunteers at so many levels, along
with our staff are deeply committed to this Mission.
